Familiar Fear at Nuit Blanche, Paris

Familiar Fear was a project commissioned by Nuit Blanche 2005. The work was a sound piece installed in two residential areas. The concept was to take sound markers, from horror films that instil fear into the viewer and recreate a soundtrack made up of those markers. After researching films for these markers I collaborated with a contemporary classical music group called Noszferatu on creating the sound work. Physically the work was played through speakers hidden in trees or in bushes so that the passer by would experience the feeling of walking into a horror film. The work plays on our collective knowledge of sounds, informed by cultural entities like film and television, and how they affect the psyche.
