In Search of the Authentic – Originally curators Chris Gilbert and Cira Pascal Marquina for la Caixa in Llieda Catalonia commissioned this mural. The work is about the growing number of pilgrims to natural sites all over the world and the impact they have on the culture around them. In their quest for an authentic communion with untouched nature they are in fact destroying what they seek. This fact is not lost on the pilgrims and the mantra that they have created, “Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints, give something back,” echoes this contradiction. This work was also shown as part of The Protoacademy’s contribution to “Fixing the Bridge” at Cemeti Art House in Yogijakarta, Indonesia.
