CNG Cowboys at KHOJ, New Delhi

“CNG Cowboys” was a piece done at KHOJ in New Delhi, India after six weeks of research in the city. The city has a serious air pollution problem that has been blamed mostly on the burning of petrol by public vehicles in the city rather than the coal burning power plants outside of the city. To rectify this the city has made all public transport and cab services convert to compressed natural gas or CNG. These vehicles act as a canvass for individual expression in the city and I chose to use their symbols to create a metaphor of CNG and India’s attitude towards the environment.
